Rob Grant, Obituary, Death, Co-Creator of Red Dwarf Has Died Unexpectedly

I was heartbroken to hear of the death of Rob Grant, co-creator of Red Dwarf. It is difficult to process the loss of someone who shaped so much of my life, both personally and professionally. Rob and I first met at the age of nine. We were pupils at Chetham’s School of Music before later studying together at University of Liverpool. Long before there was any thought of a career, we simply tried to make each other laugh. What began as schoolboy mischief gradually grew into a creative partnership that would define our futures.

The success of those shows was beyond anything we could have imagined as children. I will always cherish the years we spent side by side at a keyboard, pushing jokes further, arguing passionately, and laughing until it hurt.

Creative partnerships are rarely simple; they demand energy, conviction, and resilience. Yet at the core of ours was a shared instinct for comedy and a genuine love of making people laugh. That connection never left us. My heartfelt condolences go to Rob’s wife, Kath, and to his family and friends. I will forever be thankful for what we created together. Rest in peace, smeghead.
