Mamta Thapa and Binda Thapa Death ,Obituary With ‘Curved Dagger’ in Fairfax County; 1-Year-Old Son Found Unharmed

A Virginia mother and grandmother were brutally killed inside their Fairfax County home early Monday morning in what authorities described as a violent and chaotic scene. The attack occurred just after 5 a.m. on February 23 in the Mantua neighborhood.

According to Fairfax County police, 54-year-old Chhatra Thapa allegedly used a 10-inch curved dagger to fatally stab his wife and adult daughter. The victims were identified as 33-year-old Mamta Thapa and her 52-year-old mother, Binda Thapa. Both women were originally from Nepal and lived in the home along with Mamta’s husband and her 1-year-old son.

Investigators said the toddler was present during the attack and was “in the middle” of the violence but did not suffer any visible injuries. Authorities and child protective services are working with victim support teams to ensure the child’s immediate care and long-term well-being.

Police Chief Kevin Davis said officers responded to two frantic 911 calls — one from a neighbor and another from Mamta’s husband, who had attempted to intervene. When officers arrived, they encountered what was described as an “unimaginable” scene, with blood throughout the home and multiple victims suffering from severe stab wounds.

Mamta’s husband was critically injured while trying to stop the suspect and remains hospitalized in life-threatening condition. Authorities said the attack was still ongoing when officers entered the residence. Police reported that the suspect was actively stabbing his son-in-law when officers confronted him, prompting them to open fire. The suspect was fatally shot at the scene.

Neighbors reported waking to screams, banging on doors, and the sound of sirens filling the normally quiet residential street. One neighbor said Mamta had pounded on her door seeking help before collapsing. Emergency responders were later seen transporting victims while police secured the area with crime-scene tape.

Detectives continue to investigate what led to the deadly violence inside the family’s home. Authorities have stated there is no ongoing threat to the public. Meanwhile, community members have begun organizing support efforts for the surviving husband and the young child left at the center of the tragedy.
