Mother and Two Children Found Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide in Lakewood Ranch
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding a suspected murder-suicide that left a 44-year-old mother and her two children dead Thursday night in Lakewood Ranch. The victims include a 14-year-old boy and his 11-year-old sister.
Deputies responded at approximately 8:30 p.m. to a home in the 8200 block of Pavia Way, located in the Lake Club, an upscale gated community. Authorities said the welfare check was requested by the children’s father, who was out of the country in South America at the time.
When deputies arrived at the residence, they discovered what officials described as a violent scene. The two children were found dead in separate rooms, each showing signs of what investigators called homicidal violence.
According to Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Randy Warren, detectives are still working to establish a timeline. Preliminary findings suggest the teenage boy may have died earlier than his sister and mother.
Investigators said the family moved to the Lakewood Ranch community three years ago from Missouri, and there had been no prior calls for service at the residence. While the investigation remains ongoing, authorities believe there is evidence of planning and indicated that the mother appeared to have acted intentionally.
Detectives continue to process the scene and examine evidence. The Medical Examiner will determine the official causes and manner of death. Authorities say additional updates will be released as more information becomes available.
