Virginia Judge, Obituary, Cause Of Death Former Mayor of Strathfield – In Loving Memory

It is with great sadness that I acknowledge the passing of Virginia Judge, former Mayor of Strathfield, former Member for Strathfield, and a woman whose life was dedicated to serving others. Virginia’s commitment to her community began long before any titles. She was a familiar face on local streets, attending meetings and always listening to her neighbours. She entered public life in 1995 as a Strathfield councillor, later serving as Mayor. She understood that councils were not just institutions; they were the heartbeat of everyday life.

In 2003, Virginia made history as the first woman elected to represent Strathfield in the NSW Parliament, where she served for eight years. As Minister for Fair Trading, Minister for Citizenship, and Minister for the Arts, she worked to protect consumers, celebrate diversity, and promote the cultural life of our state. But Virginia’s legacy goes beyond her titles.

It was about her willingness to stay after meetings to listen to concerns, her presence at local events, and her belief that representation is built in those small, personal moments. For Virginia, politics was about service, patience, and presence, always with a touch of humour to lighten the room. Virginia helped shape Strathfield’s story and opened doors for others to follow. My deepest condolences go to her family, friends, and all who worked with her in public service. May she rest in peace, and may her legacy inspire us all to serve with sincerity and care.
